Whether someone is doing a complete demolition or just a renovation or repair, there are often many materials that can be salvaged and reused. This helps a company or homeowner to be more responsible to the environment and can reduce the cost of waste disposal. Here is a list of some of the materials that can be recycled and reused.
Many roofs use fiberglass or asphalt in the shingles. These can be reused in parking lots or driveways. Roof decking and other framing materials can also be recycled. Depending on the type of material, it may be reused as flooring, cabinets, or even as trim. The frames may be reused as a new frame once the nails have been removed if they are in good condition.
Unpainted lumber can be ground up and used as mulch for gardening beds or to prevent erosion of the ground. Masonry and concrete can also find new uses. Bricks can often be repurposed to build walkways or as outdoor walls. For bricks that are broken or not reusable in their present form, they can be ground up as gravel.
Fixtures and Other Items
Many other items can be repurposed even if they are past use in their present form. These include porcelain sinks, toilets, and ceramic tile. Kitchens are a gold mine of items that can be recycled. These include cabinets and appliances that can be given away to non-profit organizations that can either reuse them or sell them. Copper wiring and pipes and aluminium products can also be recycled for their metals.
So where does someone take all of this recyclable material? Typically, a waste and junk removal company is willing to divide up some of the reusable material as part of its contract. Other materials will cost about the same to recycle as to throw away.
The local Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that would take the kitchen appliances and many other items for reuse. Architectural Clearing House also picks up many salvageable materials for no cost.
So, regardless of the junk removal company you choose, it’s important to remember that much of your waste can be recycled. You’ll not only solve your junk problem, but you’ll help the environment as well.
